The coroner’s office identified the victim as Janet Hernandez.
The crash on Mount Baldy Road and Mountain Avenue was reported around 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to CHP officer J. Garcia, who investigated at the scene.
The 30-year-old Los Angeles man at the wheel of the 2018 Toyota Camry was driving at an unsafe speed for rainy weather and roadway conditions when he “allowed the Toyota to veer to the right until the Toyota crashed into a dirt berm,” Garcia said. “This crash caused the Toyota to overturn and collide with the roadway.”
The woman was the right-rear passenger and was not wearing her seat belt, Garcia said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and a 31-year-old man also from Los Angeles were taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries, the officer said. The driver was wearing his seatbelt but the other man was not.
The driver was later arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, Garcia said. He was being held at the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to sheriff’s inmate records.
