Police were searching Sunday evening for a hit-and-run tow truck driver who reportedly sped down a South Los Angeles street and fatally struck a 68-year-old woman who had gone to her car to retrieve something.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. Saturday at the corner of St. Andrews Place and 48th Street, near Vermont Square, CBS2 reported.
The pedestrian, Virginia Meza, was crushed into the door of her Toyota, the station reported.
She was transported to a hospital, where she later died after surgery, the station reported.
“On this street, people are always speeding, blasting you a lot of the times,” a neighbor told the station.
A description of the tow truck and the driver were not immediately available.
Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call Los Angeles police’s 77th Street Division at 323-786-5077. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
