Fire crews Friday continued their salvage and overhaul efforts at the scene of a greater alarm fire at a strip mall in downtown Los Angeles that burned for more than an hour.
Firefighters responded at 9:41 p.m. Thursday to 832 S. San Pedro St., near East Ninth Street, where they engaged in defensive firefighting operations as they encountered flames coming through the roof of a one-story row of commercial properties that house several textile and fabric businesses, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
At last three of the businesses suffered heavy damage from the fire.
It took 117 firefighters 74 minutes to put the fire out.
No injuries were reported, Humphrey said.
San Pedro and Ninth streets in the vicinity of the fire were closed for several hours.
