Ten people were arrested during two DUI checkpoints, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Saturday.

The checkpoints were conducted between 9 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday in Moreno Valley, and between 7 p.m. Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday in Temecula.

The Moreno Valley checkpoint took place near the intersection of Iris Avenue and Firerock Lane, while the one in Temecula was conducted near the intersection of Old Town Front Street and Moreno Road, sheriff’s officials said.

In Moreno Valley, deputies screened 1,235 cars and arrested five of the drivers. One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and another driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. Three others were arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended driver’s license, according to the sheriff’s department.

In Temecula, deputies screened 423 cars and a total of five drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Funding for these checkpoints was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
