A man accused of leading police on a brief pursuit that ended in a deadly crash in Winnetka was charged Tuesday with murder and other counts.
Kevin Joseph Larrea, 42, is charged with one count each of murder, fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle causing death, driving or taking a vehicle without consent and driving against traffic, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The crash occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Saticoy Street and Mason Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
Seconds before the crash, officers began to pursue a vehicle because its license plate did not match the description of the vehicle to which it was supposed to belong, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The vehicle that was being pursued was going southbound on Mason Avenue when it struck a westbound vehicle on Saticoy Street, which caused it to strike two more vehicles, according to police.
A woman in the vehicle that was initially struck died at the scene, according to police.
That woman was identified Monday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner as 46-year-old West Hills resident Cristina David.
Three other people were injured in the four-vehicle collision.
