A fire that erupted Thursday in a Perris home caused extensive damage, injuring an occupant who was among the six people displaced, along with their pets.
The blaze was reported about 10:15 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of West Seventh Street, near Interstate 215, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency said that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered smoke billowing from the single-story house.
Firefighters quickly deployed to prevent the flames from spreading throughout the property. The fire was fully contained 20 minutes later, according to officials.
One occupant of the home, whose identity was not disclosed, suffered unspecified minor injuries and was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment.
The victim was among a total of five adults and one child displaced by the fire. Their dog and four cats were also homeless. Red Cross personnel were requested to assist the parties with finding temporary alternate lodgings.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
