A man was shot Monday at a Huntington Beach business, and the woman suspected of pulling the trigger was killed by police two hours later during a traffic stop in South Gate.

Officers responded about 7:15 a.m. Monday to reports of shots fired at California Closets at 5921 Skylab Road, according to Huntington Beach Police Department spokesman Corbin Carson.

The victim was taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Carson said. Witnesses told reporters that the victim was conscious and talking when he was taken to a hospital.

About two hours later, police in South Gate spotted a vehicle that was believed to have been connected to the shooting. Police stopped the car in the 8600 block of San Carlos Avenue, near Firestone Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicle turned into a driveway, where the officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Sheriff’s officials said that during the traffic stop, the female driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, pointed a handgun at the South Gate Police Department officer, prompting the officer to shoot her.

The woman was immediately rendered aid by officers following the shooting until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.

She was then taken to a hospital, where she later died shortly before 10 a.m.

Sheriff’s officials later identified her as 29-year-old Lucero San Pedro-Castro of Baldwin Park.

There was no immediate word on the relationship between the woman and the man who was shot in Huntington Beach. The man’s name has not been released.
