An investigation was underway Monday into a crash that killed a motorcycle rider who apparently lost control of the bike on a Santa Ana freeway transition road and was flung from an overpass.
The crash was reported at 2:36 p.m. Saturday on the transition from the eastbound Garden Grove (22) Freeway to the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness told the CHP a male wearing all black flew off a blue motorcycle and landed in a dirt area of the right-hand shoulder. Witnesses also said the rider went over the overpass and was not moving on the ground below.
The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released.
The transition from the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway to the northbound Santa Ana Freeway was shut down for nearly three hours for the investigation and clean up.
Anyone who witnessed the crash was urged to contact the CHP’s Orange County Communications Center at 949-784-6700.
