A power outage that affected nearly 1,800 Southern California Edison customers this Wednesday prompted the cancellation of classes and two basketball games at LA Southwest College.
A vehicle struck a guy wire attached to a power pole, causing the wire to contact power lines, according to SCE spokesman David Song, who said the outage began about 2:30 p.m.
He did not have details about the crash, but said power was quickly restored to all but 73 customers, including the college at 1600 West Imperial Highway, Song said.
The school reported about 5:30 p.m. that power was still out at the college, but an hour later tweeted that it had been restored to the campus and surrounding area.
About 1,000 of the school’s 3,500 students and another 100 faculty and staff members were on campus when the power went out. School officials made the decision to cancel classes for the reminder of the day and postponed men’s and women’s basketball games against Mt. San Antonio College.
Classes are scheduled to resume Thursday, according to Southwest College spokesman Benjamin Demers.
