
Halloween doesn’t arrive for about 8 more weeks, but that hasn’t stopped the onslaught of unusual costumes being introduced for the holiday.
In the past few days we’ve been introduced to a ‘Caitlyn Jenner’ costume and another costume based on “Cecil the Lion,” the beloved creature who was killed by American dentist Walter James Palmer in July.
Both options have social media users voicing their opinions — some are not upset, while others are highly opposed.
WholesaleHalloweenCostumes.com is one website offering the “Call Me Caitlyn” costume: “If you want some ‘Vanity’ this Halloween then try wearing the Unisex Call Me Caitlyn Costume. This ensemble is designed after the one worn by the newly transformed Olympic gold medalist as she made her debut on the cover of a magazine and will make you the top news story of the night when you show up to party dressed as her … This unisex costume can be worn by both men and women but either way it’s guaranteed to start a conversation,” the website’s description says.

According to an article in USA Today “Spirit Halloween, which says it’s the nation’s largest specialty Halloween retailer, announced late Wednesday that not only has it refused to comply with demands to drop the costume, it’s making it available for sale online more than a month earlier than planned.
“It won’t be seen in its 1,150 Halloween stores until the end of September,” says Marketing Chief Lisa Barr, “But it will launch online before the end of the day Wednesday,” the article adds.
Spirit’s “Caitlyn Corset Set,” includes a corset, shorts and wig, and will have a price tag of $49.99. Sizes available for the curious? Medium, large, extra large and plus or the wig can be purchased separately for $16.99.
As for the Cecil costume, it is being sold at Costumeish.com, and is called “Lion Killer Dentist Halloween Costume.” According to an article in TIME magazine the company says that 15 percent of all proceeds from the costume will go to a wildlife foundation.
The Lion Killer Dentist Costume features a severed lion’s head mask, bloody smock, and bloody gloves.
In the weeks to come, the founder and vice president of Costumish.com, Jonathon Weeks, also said in the TIME article, to look for other costumes to be introduced including: A Jared costume that comes with a Subway sandwich, Donald Trump, Bill Cosby, Ashley Madison, and [Josh] Duggar.
