“I blame NBC for this terrible situation,” Golden Globe host Ricky Gervais said Sunday night in introducing one of his all-time favorite targets. “Mel [Gibson] blames … we know who Mel blames.”
“Listen I feel a bit bad for it,” Gervais said. “Mel’s forgotten all about it, apparently. That’s what drinking does.”
Then just before bringing Gibson out, the host said: “I’d rather get a drink with him in his hotel room tonight instead of Bill Cosby.”
Gibson had a comeback of his own — likening Gervais to a colonoscopy. And THAT became the social media Joke du Jour.
