Ryan Murphy will be given the first-ever California Golden Slate Award by the commission, at the 9th Annual Film in California Conference on May 21.
More than 500 entertainment industry professionals are expected to attend the dinner.
Commission officials said Murphy created thousands of production-related jobs in the Golden State in such projects as “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson,” “Nip/Tuck” and “Glee.”
He is also credited with moving the production of “American Horror Story” and “Scream Queens” out of Louisiana and to California.
The award will be presented by Jamie Lee Curtis, who currently stars with Emma Roberts in “Scream Queens.”
The Film in California Conference is focused on helping film, TV, commercial and new media professionals learn how to leverage California’s vast production resources.
The commission said this year’s conference will feature a full-day of expert panels and presentations. The opening session will be led by Dax Shepard, a writer-director-actor who is rebooting the CHiPs franchise with a movie based on the iconic 1970s TV series.
In a prepared statement, the executive director of the California Film Commission said this year’s Film in California Conference will be held amid a surge in production due to the state’s expanded tax credit program.
Amy Lemisch said the goal for the conference is “to ensure that production decision makers are up-to-speed on everything we have to offer — from our tax credit program to our incredibly diverse locations.”
