How long will it be before a college claims credit for the first course devoted to Melissa McCarthy’s impression of White House press secretary Sean Spicer?

With the official “Saturday Night Live” YouTube video of the skit nearing 12 million views, commentary poured out on Spicer’s reactions to the satire as well as SNL’s history of cross-dressing cast members.

Spicer — at about 46 the same age as McCarthy — first said it was “cute” and “funny.”

Later, at the Super Bowl, Spicer told ExtraTV “he felt the impression was a little exaggerated. His advice was that McCarthy ‘needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there.” Though he thought it was a really ‘funny’ show, he felt that McCarthy ‘could dial back’ a bit.”

Of course, exaggeration is the heart of parody, so that’s unlikely. And SNL fans are clamoring for more — in the tradition of Tina Fey reprising her Sarah Palin.

McCarthy, by the way, sharpened her comedy chops via the Los Angeles-based Groundlings troupe before becoming a movie star.
