The Los Angeles City Council Friday approved that a star in honor of six-time Grammy Award winning songwriter Glen Ballard be placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In a 12-0 vote, the council members backed the recommendation from the Bureau of Engineering to install the star on 6253 Hollywood Blvd., across from the W Hotel. In a letter from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which has oversight of the Walk of Fame, a ceremony is scheduled for July 11 at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate the addition of Ballard’s star.
Council members Nithya Raman, Imelda Padilla and John Lee were absent during the vote.
Ballard is one of popular music’s most accomplished producers and songwriters, whose records have sold more than 150 million copies worldwide, according to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
In 2023, Ballard was selected to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Ballard’s L.A-based production company, Augury, has played a pivotal role in several projects and musicals including Netflix’s “The Eddy” in 2020 and “GHOST the Musical” in 2021. He also helped produce the stage adaptation of 1985’s “Back to the Future,” directed by John Rando. For that show, which first opened in March 2020, he created original music and lyrics, including 17 new songs.
His work in film includes writing original songs for “Charlotte’s Web,” “Beowulf,” “A Christmas Carol,” “The Croods,” “The Mummy’s Return,” “Valentine’s Day,” and Disney’s live-action retelling of “Pinocchio,” which premiered on Disney+ in 2022.
