A man riding a motorcycle was killed Sunday in a crash involving a pickup truck in Lancaster, and a woman coming to the aid of the biker suffered major injuries when she was hit by a passing motorist, who stayed at the scene.

The initial crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. in the area of 15th Street East and Avenue I, according to a watch commander at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster station.

The motorcyclist was going west on Avenue I approaching the intersection of 15th Street East, as a red pickup truck was going east on Avenue I and making a left turn at the intersection, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau reported. That’s when the motorcycle and pickup collided, Deputy Michelle Sanchez said.

The biker died at the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of kin.

At some point the motorcyclist was underneath the pickup truck and some bystanders came to his aid, the watch commander said.

Another car, going west on Avenue I, struck a woman who was assisting in the effort. She was taken to an area hospital with major injuries and the motorist whose vehicle struck her stayed at the scene.

Arriving paramedics pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene.

The condition of the driver in the pickup truck was not immediately known.

The sheriff’s Lancaster station asked anyone who saw the crash to call 661-948-8466.
