It took firefighters about 20 minutes Saturday evening to contain a brushfire that neared the iconic Hollywood sign.

The fire was reported at 9:47 p.m. along the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway at Barham Boulevard, said the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Nicholas Prange.

It was in a 2,500-square-foot area of heavy brush and moving uphill, Prange said.

The first 20 firefighters on the scene were able to stop its progress, and the remaining air and ground assignment was cancelled, he said.
