Containment increased to 50% Monday of a brush fire that scorched an estimated 1,000 acres of grass near the Golden State (5) Freeway in Gorman.

The Tumbleweed Fire was reported at 1:34 p.m. Sunday at Gorman Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Cal Fire.

The blaze forced evacuations near a recreational vehicle park and left two firefighters with minor injuries.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department requested fixed-wing aircraft Sunday afternoon to help battle the fire.

A second alarm was declared and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department advised people to stay away from the area. Sheriff’s officials evacuated people south of the Hungry Valley State Vehicular Recreation Area in Gorman.

No structure damage was immediately reported.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a smoke advisory Sunday night, which remained in effect through Monday.

A 12-acre brush fire also broke out Sunday afternoon in nearby Agua Dulce, near the 10500 block of Dale Road. Firefighters fully contained that fire Sunday evening.
