A truck fire on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway spread to nearby vegetation Monday, sparking a brush fire that scorched 28 acres before it was knocked down by federal and county fire crews.
The fire began around 3:30 p.m., burning about four acres of brush while flames slowly devoured the truck along the shoulder of the 5 Freeway near Vista del Lago and Pyramid Lake north of Castaic, authorities said.
The fire reached about 15 acres without any reported structural damage within 20 minutes. At around 4:35 p.m., the national forest reported the flames burned through approximately 25 acres of vegetation. Shortly after 5 p.m., Angeles National Forest officials declared a knockdown on the fire, which burned 28 acres.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist national forest crews with extinguishing the flames.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened in the remote area.
