A festival heralding the coming of fall and celebrating Inland Empire history at a schoolhouse near Beaumont that was constructed almost 150 years ago will be held Saturday, featuring exhibits, sweets, outdoor music and children’s activities.
The Riverside County Park & Open-Space District will host its eighth annual “Fall Celebration” at the San Timoteo Canyon Schoolhouse, 31985 San Timoteo Canyon Road, in the unincorporated area between Beaumont and Redlands.
The fest will feature tours of the building, which was originally constructed in 1883 and underwent major renovations in 2022, according to the county.
Visitors will have an opportunity to take a look around the one-room schoolhouse, which is managed by the Park & Open-Space District and typically closed to the general public.
“Guests will enjoy guided tours, live `schoolmarm’ lessons and a variety of hands-on activities, including pumpkin painting, fall crafts, a local history scavenger hunt and maypole dancing,” according to an Open-Space District statement.
There will be a flag-raising ceremony and an authentic 19th century stagecoach for visitors to see and touch, while enjoying live music, complimentary popcorn and snow cones, along with other delights, organizers said.
“The San Timoteo Schoolhouse served students and families for decades and remains a vibrant symbol of the region’s heritage,” the Open-Space District stated. “This annual celebration aims to promote historical awareness, connect residents with parks and offer a fun-filled day for all ages.”
