A fire broke out at a home in Irvine as six members of a family were about to wade into their Thanksgiving dinner, injuring one person and causing $450,000 in damage, authorities said Friday.

A man suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns to the head as a result of the fire at a home in the 10 block of Halfmoon, said Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

“There were four residents, two adults and young boy and girl and another couple, at home at the time of the fire,” Concialdi said.

“The six people were just sitting down to eat their Thanksgiving dinner when a fire started in the upper bedroom on the second floor” at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, he said, adding that 35 Fire Authority firefighters extinguished the blaze by about 6:35 p.m.

The flames damaged the attic and the second floor of the two-story house, Concialdi said. Damage was estimated at $300,000 to the structure and $150,000 to the contents of the home.

The fire remained under investigation.
