A man was fatally struck by a Metrolink train Thursday morning in the City of Orange, authorities said.

The man was hit and died at the scene near the intersection of North Cypress Street and Walnut Avenue about 3 a.m., said Orange police Sgt. Sean O’Toole and the Orange Fire Department.

The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification, and there was no immediate word of why he was on or near the tracks.

There were no reports of injuries on the train. The tracks were reopened a couple of hours after the man was hit, but OC line trains may experience a delay of 10 to 15 minutes between Santa Ana and Anaheim, Metrolink reported.

The death will be investigated by a number of agencies, including the Orange police, the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Transit Policing Division, and Metrolink.
