A Buena Park woman was killed when her car veered to the right on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, hit the right shoulder wall and then crashed into the center divider in Santa Fe Springs, authorities said Monday.
It happened at 11 p.m. Sunday on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway south of Shoemaker Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer C. Summers.
The woman, identified as 61-year-old Marlene Leyva, was driving a 2004 Buick when “for an unknown reason, the Buick veered to the right where it collided with the right shoulder wall,” Summers said. The vehicle continued across all southbound lanes where it was struck by a 2014 Toyota driven by 35- year-old Teodoro Martinez Avila of Commerce and finally hit the center divider.
Leyva was pronounced dead at the scene, Summers said. Martinez Avila was not injured.
