Authorities Friday were investigating why a 24-year-old jogger from San Diego was found dead on a Fountain Valley running trail near Mile Square Park.
Initial reports indicated foul play was not involved in the death.
Authorities responded to a report of a person down at 12:58 p.m. Thursday on the jogging trail along Brookhurst Street north of Warner Avenue, said Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Kham Vang.
Arriving officers found the man wearing jogging attire lying on the grass just off the trail, Vang said. The man had been running along the exterior of Mile Square Park and appeared to have collapsed during his run.
The man, whose death does not appear to be suspicious, was visiting a friend in the Fountain Valley area, Vang said.
The Orange County coroner’s office responded and took over the investigation but the man’s name has not been released pending notification to next of kin, Vang said.
