Strong winds were expected in Southern California overnight, with gusts up to 65 mph possible in the most wind-prone locations Sunday morning, forecasters said Saturday.
A wind advisory was in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita valleys and the Santa Monica Mountains and the inland areas of Orange County, according to the National Weather Service.
Areas of north to northeast winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph were predicted.
The NWS added that some areas like the San Fernando Valley and eastern Santa Monica Mountains may be less windy Saturday night and Sunday as the winds become more easterly.
Authorities said winds could blow around unsecured objects and make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Additionally, tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
Along with building high pressure aloft, generally warm temperatures were expected Sunday and Monday. A cooling trend will follow as the first of multiple storm systems brings widespread rain and gusty winds to the region Wednesday night through Thursday, the NWS said. Additional rounds of rain are likely to follow through to the following week.
Sunday will be the warmest day with widespread highs in the 70s to low 80s highs across the coasts and valleys and the mid-60s to lower 70s across the mountains and deserts.
