Rescue California plans to host a rally in Cathedral City Wednesday to urge voters to recall Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The 10:45 a.m. event at the Employment Development Department at 30551 Pauline Ave. is part of the organization’s final statewide tour before Tuesday’s recall election.

Similar events are also planned for San Diego, Sherman Oaks and Bakersfield on Wednesday; and for San Luis Obispo, Fresno, Sacramento and San Jose on Thursday.

A number of guest speakers are listed for the rallies statewide, including Anne Dunsmore, campaign manager for Rescue California, and Marc Klaas, who became a children’s advocate after his 12-year-old daughter Polly was kidnapped and strangled in 1993.

But the group — a political committee that drove the 2003 recall of Gov. Gray Davis — did not specify which speakers may be present at the Cathedral City event.

Organizers indicated that some stops may have local speakers, but did not specify which ones.

Rescue California cites homelessness, crime, housing prices, high taxes and what it calls a failing school system as reasons for its recall campaign. Although the group advocates recalling Newsom, it has not endorsed an alternative candidate.

Newsom, meanwhile, will be getting some help from President Joe Biden in the final days leading up to the election.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki announced Tuesday that Biden will be visiting California on behalf of Newsom sometime early next week, but did not give a specific date.

Vice President Kamala Harris is also set to campaign on Newsom’s behalf, making an appearance in the San Francisco Bay area on Wednesday.
