The number of people hospitalized with a coronavirus infection in Riverside County reached exactly 100 in the last week, while patients under intensive care remained about the same, the Riverside University Health System said Friday.
A comparison of RUHS data over the last seven days showed that COVID-19 hospitalizations countywide increased from 91 to 100, with 11 patients in the ICU, compared to 10 on May 27.
One month ago, 34 people were hospitalized throughout the county with a COVID infection, eight of whom were ICU patients. The ICU patient count has generally remained at or below 10 since the end of March, according to data.
The most recent county Department of Public Health figures available indicated that, among those hospitalized with a COVID diagnosis, 17% had been fully vaccinated with a SARS-CoV-2 therapeutic.
Officials said that the aggregate number of COVID cases recorded since the public health documentation period began in March 2020 is 617,062.
RUHS said that a total 6,539 deaths from virus-related complications have been recorded in the last 26 months. A week ago, the figure was 6,538. The fatalities are trailing indicators because of delays processing death certificates and can go back weeks, according to officials.
The number of known active virus cases in the county, based on available data, is 4,191, compared to 4,163 one week ago. The active count is derived by subtracting deaths and recoveries from the current total — 617,062 — according to the county Executive Office. Verified patient recoveries countywide are now 606,332.
