One person was killed Thursday and another critically injured in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 in Corona.

The crash happened about 12:40 p.m. Thursday on southbound I-15 at Cajalco Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The agency said that a pickup and sedan impacted near the Cajalco off-ramp, causing the smaller vehicle to overturn, ejecting at least one of the occupants.

Witnesses stopped and rendered aid to the ejected party, whose identity was not disclosed, performing CPR until Corona Fire Department paramedics reached the location less than 10 minutes later.

Paramedics attempted resuscitative measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene just after 1 p.m., according to the CHP.

The other victim was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The CHP shut down the Cajalco exit lane and off-ramp due to the amount of wreckage and ongoing investigation.

The closure caused a traffic jam stretching back roughly two miles, the CHP said.
