A four-vehicle wreck triggered a fire and injured three people Wednesday at a Menifee intersection.

The collision happened shortly before 11 a.m. at Highway 74 and Menifee Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The agency said multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered one of the four vehicles in flames, though the occupants had safely escaped.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze just after 11 a.m.

Two people suffered moderate injuries and were taken to a regional trauma center for treatment, according to reports from the scene.

Another victim suffered unspecified minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

California Highway Patrol and Menifee police officers partially shut down the intersection.

The cause of the wreck was under investigation.
