The Anaheim Ducks will hold Hockey Fights Cancer Night at Wednesday’s game against the Buffalo Sabres at Honda Center, part of a monthlong league-wide initiative to raise awareness and funds for organizations involved in cancer care and research.
The first 3,000 fans entering the arena will receive lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ribbons to wear for the game. Ducks coaches, broadcasters and executives will wear lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ties.
Ducks players will have lavender Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets throughout the month. An online auction of game-used, player- autographed hockey sticks wrapped in lavender tape will be held at AnaheimDucks.com/auction.
Lavender is the color representing awareness for all types of cancer.
Fans attending the game will have the opportunity to fill out “I Fight For” cards to honor those that have battled cancer. Fans will be invited to display their cards during a moment of recognition in the second period.
The cards will be available at Honda Center’s south entrance and main concourse.
The Anaheim Ducks Foundation will be selling limited-edition Anaheim Ducks player-autographed Hockey Fights Cancer mini sticks in support of the Loma Linda University Cancer Center. The mini sticks will cost $20 each and be sold outside Section 212 starting at 6 p.m.
The Hockey Fights Cancer initiative was founded in December 1998 by the NHL and National Hockey League Players Association. More than $12.8 million has been raised to support national and local cancer research institutions, children’s hospitals, player charities and local cancer organizations.
