Actor and comedian Will Ferrell has been named as a community ambassador for the Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee, joining a group of athletes and entertainers helping promote the global tournament, it was announced Tuesday.
He joins alongside Snoop Dogg, Cobi Jones, Eva Longoria, Luka Doncic, Magic Johnson and recently announced global soccer stars Mia Hamm and Julie Foudy, supporting L.A.’s role as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to organizers.
The host committee, led by the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission, said ambassadors will help engage local communities and welcome visitors from around the world during the tournament.
“As a lifelong soccer fan and proud Angeleno, I’m thrilled to serve as an official Community Ambassador for the Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026,” Ferrell said in a statement. “I’m here to support the Host Committee’s efforts and cheer loudly for the countries playing in the tournament. I promise not to jump in as goalkeeper… unless absolutely necessary. Let’s make this tournament unforgettable for Los Angeles!”
Ferrell, a Southern California native, is also a co-owner of Los Angeles Football Club and has been active in promoting the sport in the region.
Hamm and Foudy, both members of the 1999 U.S. Women’s World Cup championship team, will help promote youth engagement and the growth of soccer across the region, organizers said.
“The FIFA World Cup is an opportunity to inspire young players, unite fans, and highlight the tremendous growth of the sport in our region. I’m grateful to be part of it,” Hamm said.
Los Angeles is scheduled to host eight matches during the tournament at SoFi Stadium, including the opening match for the U.S. men’s national team.
Officials said the region is expected to host weeks of fan events and activities surrounding the matches as part of the 2026 tournament.
