The pickup driver who died in a rollover crash near Blythe was a Long Beach resident, authorities said Saturday.
Luis Ortega Almanza was 31, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
The solo-vehicle crash was reported about 4 p.m. Friday on westbound Interstate 10 near Blythe, according to the California Highway Patrol.
“Preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the 2009 GMC Sierra, for reasons still under investigation, turned his vehicle to the right and allowed it to rotate in a clockwise manner across the westbound lanes of travel,” said CHP Sgt. R. Bostrom. The pickup overturned as it entered the dirt shoulder and came to rest on its roof in open desert terrain, he said.
Almanza was pronounced dead at the scene, Bostrom said.
Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be the cause of the crash, and anyone with information was asked to call the CHP’s Blythe area office at 760-922-6141.
