Summer days are winding down to a precious few, and while temperatures in the Southland will be on the warm side for the next couple days, the Labor Day holiday weekend will be turning a bit cooler.

Temperatures Wednesday in downtown Los Angeles and other inland areas will edge toward the 90-degree mark. By the weekend those high marks will be hovering around the mid-70s.

It’ll be great at local beaches for a couple days with upper temperatures nearing 80. But just in time for the holiday weekend – cooler temperatures in the low 70s.

And it’s really time for that sweater or jacket at night, with lows around 60 through the week.

If you’re headed for a local mountain resort for the holiday weekend, temperatures will still be in the low 70s during the day. But you’ll need a lot more than a sweater at night as the mercury will dip down into the upper 30s.

The National Weather Service forecast for Los Angeles and vicinity on Wednesday calls for sunny skies after areas of morning low clouds and fog. Highs from the mid to upper 70s at the beaches to the mid 80s to around 90 inland.

Wednesday night it will be mostly clear early then low clouds and fog. Lows in the lower to mid 60s.

The forecast for Thursday calls for low clouds and fog in the morning then sunny. Highs from the lower to mid 70s at the beaches to the mid to upper 80s inland.

In Coastal Orange County the forecast for Wednesday calls for low clouds and fog in the morning then mostly sunny.

Highs 78 to 83.

Wednesday night it will be clear in the evening then low clouds and fog. Lows around 64.

Thursday it will be mostly clear early then low clouds and fog. Lows in the lower to mid 60s.

The ultraviolet index level in the Los Angeles area for Wednesday is a very high 10, according to the weather service. A very high exposure level reading of 10, or greater, means a fair skinned person could suffer a sunburn in about four minutes if not protected.
