With a storm moving into the region, Glendora city officials Thursday raised the alert level for residents living below the Colby Fire burn area, although authorities said they do not anticipate significant flooding.
The Colby Fire burned almost 2,000 acres in January, 2014 and left many hillsides without trees, brush or other natural vegetation that can stop or reduce flooding from rain.
The Glendora yellow alert status requires residents in the area to remove vehicles, trash bins and other obstructions from streets to ensure emergency access to the area and prevent damage from possible flooding.
Glendora officials noted that rain is expected to start falling in the area early Friday morning, with precipitation estimates for the San Gabriel Valley ranging from 1/4-inch to more than 1 inch of rain, with periods of heavy rainfall possible.
City officials said the rain will primarily result in slick roads, and there could be some debris on streets.
“Based upon forecasts, we do not anticipate any significant problems. … The storm will be much stronger up north but will weaken as it hits LA County,” according to a Facebook post by the city.
