Two car-theft suspects led California Highway Patrol officers on a 40-minute pursuit from the Pomona area to Long Beach at speeds of 80 to 100 miles per hour, the CHP reported Monday.

The pursuit on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway began at Garey Avenue in Pomona around 11:10 p.m. Sunday, said CHP Officer Richard McAllister.

The suspects were in a white 1990 Acura Integra as they led officers westbound on the San Bernardino Freeway through downtown Los Angeles, turned onto the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway in Carson, then headed south on the San Diego (405) Freeway to Long Beach and turned south onto the Long Beach (710) Freeway, McAllister said.

The suspects got off the freeway at Willow Street and headed west until they turned onto northbound Santa Fe Avenue, he said. Around that time, CHP officers used spike strips to flatten at least one tire of the Acura, which started emitting smoke, and the suspects bailed out of the car at Carson Street.

The two suspects were arrested just before midnight, McAllister said.
