Police in Glendale are searching for one of three suspects who staged a home invasion-robbery dressed as Department of Water and Power employees Friday, leaving two suspects in custody, and a resident injured.
The three suspects, all Hispanic males, wore reflective yellow vests to pull off the ruse, according to police.
One of the suspects contacted a male victim who lived on the block thorough the window in his home, acting like he needed a signature from the man to proceed with work orders, Lightfoot said.
When the victim opened up the door to his home, Lightfoot said, “the suspects forced their way into the home, pushing the victim down on the ground and zip-tying his hands and feet.”
One of the suspected robbers held the victim at gunpoint while the other two scoured the home for valuables. They eventually found money and left the home in a black sedan, Lightfoot said.
A police officer patrolling the 134 freeway saw a Lexus with paper plates, containing three men matching the description of the suspects. When the officer attempted to pull the car over at Pacific Avenue and Burchett Street, the suspected fled the scene, Lightfoot said.
Officers initiated a pursuit of the suspects, losing track of the suspects’ vehicle in the Zoo Drive area, at which point they set up a perimeter at the Gene Autry Museum.
Police apprehended two of three suspects, detaining and arresting them in connection with the home invasion robbery, according to Lightfoot.
Officers found evidence of the home invasion on the suspects at the scene of their arrest, Lightfoot said.
The victim suffered a minor facial injury and was treated by firefighters at the scene.
The names of the arrestees were not being made public tonight due to the ongoing probe by investigators, Lightfoot said. The suspect at large was described as a Hispanic male with a short hairdo.
Glendale Police Chief Robert Castro thanked residents who reported the suspicious events to authorities, adding that Friday’s arrests were “a good example” of the teamwork between the “community, communications division and our police officers.”
