Three young men in their early 20s were critically injured Monday when they were ejected from a speeding convertible Ford Mustang that crashed into two cars in Reseda, then careened into a parked car, police said.
The crash took place on Vanowen Street, just west of Tampa Avenue, about 1:30 a.m., said Sgt. Cameron Dunnet of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.
“The Mustang hit at least two cars that were traveling, then slammed into a parked car, which then hit nine other parked cars,” Dunnet said.
All three men were ejected from the convertible and transported to a hospital in critical condition, Dunnet said.
“None of them were wearing their seat belts,” he said.
Witnesses told police the car appeared to be going about 100 miles per hour when it crashed, Dunnet said.
“But we haven’t yet determined how fast it was really going,” he said. “That is still under investigation by detectives.”
Detectives were also investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, he added.
Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division at (818) 644-8000. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS. All tips can be submitted anonymously.
