An Amber alert was in effect Friday as authorities hunted a 31-year-old “armed and dangerous” woman kidnapper who allegedly abducted the 16-year-old son of an acquaintance in a carjacking at gunpoint.

But it’s possible the woman suspect didn’t know the boy was in the car because the vehicle’s windows are tinted “very dark.”
“The (mother) told the officers that she wasn’t sure if the suspect actually knew that there was a child in the car because the windows are tinted very dark on the back,” Los Angeles police Detective Meghan Aguilar told a TV reporter. “So we’re still not sure what her intention was, although at this time we believe her intention was to steal the car and not kidnap the child that was in the vehicle.”
Teenager Eric Coleman was inside the car that police say was taken by Kandice Johnson around 4 p.m. Thursday at 47th and Figueroa streets.
Coleman’s mother alleged that Johnson, whom she knows, drove off in her black 2014 Toyota Camry with her son inside, Los Angeles police said.
Coleman is black, 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Johnson is black, 5-foot-3 and 147 pounds, with red, green and black multi-colored braids.
An Amber Alert was issued by the California Highway Patrol for Los Angeles and Orange counties. The Camry’s California license plate number is 7XWL023.
Authorities asked anyone who spots the car to call 911 immediately.
No further details were available about the two women or what may have triggered the incident.
