A 38-year-old felon pleaded guilty Friday and was immediately sentenced to four years in prison for running over a man in a stolen pickup truck following an argument in an Anaheim parking lot in April and driving away.
Oscar Velasquez struck the victim with a 1999 GMC Sierra while veering into a group of people he knew and had a dispute with in a parking lot near a restaurant in the 2600 block of West Lincoln Avenue, near Magnolia Avenue, about 6 p.m. April 5, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Shane Carringer.
The victim — a man in his 50s — was taken to a hospital to be treated for multiple broken bones, Carringer said.
Velasquez pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon, failing to stop at a hit-and-run collision with injury, and theft with a prior felony conviction for car theft, all felonies.
Velasquez also admitted a misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon and a sentencing enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury on the victim.
Velasquez is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and single counts each of failure to stop at a hit-and-run accident with injury and theft with a prior felony conviction of stealing a vehicle, all felonies.
