Firefighters Sunday contained a trash fire that ignited at a landfill south of Corona.

The blaze was reported at 12:34 p.m. Saturday at the El Sobrante Landfill in the 10900 block of Dawson Canyon Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials said the flames had initially spread over a 40-foot-by-20-foot trash pile that rose about 10 feet high.

Firefighters worked overnight and were able to contain the blaze by 8 a.m. Sunday. Crews remained at the scene to put out remaining hot spots and strengthen containment lines.

There were no reports of injuries.
