Two people were killed Monday in a violent collision at a South Los Angeles intersection.
The crash was reported at 5:11 a.m. Monday in the 6600 block of South Vermont Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police initially said a male suspect fled the scene but later clarified that he and a passenger in the SUV involved in the collision were taken to a hospital.
An officer at the scene told KCAL9 that the suspect vehicle was heading south on Vermont Avenue when the driver allegedly ran a red light and struck a vehicle traveling east on 66th Street.
Both victims died at the scene, police said.
A stretch of Vermont Avenue near 66th Street was closed during the investigation.
