County authorities Tuesday identified a 36-year-old man who was killed in a crash on the Golden State (5) Freeway near the Welson Canyon Motorway in the Newhall area.
The crash was reported at 2:18 a.m. Monday on the northbound side of the freeway south of the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway and The Old Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It was reported as a collision, possibly involving a pedestrian, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig told City News Service.
The victim was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as Ernesto Cruz, who died at the scene. His place of residence was not immediately available.
The CHP issued a Sigalert shutting down northbound lanes 3, 4 and 5 for the investigation and cleanup.
