A 33-year-old inmate who walked away from a reentry program in Los Angeles two weeks ago has surrendered to authorities, state corrections officials announced Tuesday.

Jovany Ojeda, 33, had been last seen around 7:25 a.m. April 11, running from the Male Community Reentry Program. He turned himself in around 11:45 p.m. Monday near the MCRP and was taken to the California Institution for Men, where he will await a decision on whether he will face an escape charge, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to the state, the MCRP facility helps eligible prisoners who are nearing the end of their sentence transition from custody to the community. The program officer community-based rehabilitation services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support. The program is voluntary for male offenders with two years or less to serve behind bars.

Ojeda was sent to state prison from Los Angeles County in 2021 to serve six years for grand theft auto, second-degree robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon as a second striker, according to CDCR.
