Anaheim police Saturday identified a man suspected in an electronics store robbery in which an alleged accomplice was fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with officers.
Paul Brian Marval III, 39, of Lake Elsinore could be charged with his cohort’s death under California’s vicarious murder law. He was caught by a California Highway Patrol officer after he and an accomplice crashed a stolen SUV as they fled a Fry’s Electronics store at 3370 E. La Palma Ave. about 2 p.m. Friday, Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn said.

The 2012 black Honda Pilot, reported stolen in Corona, collided with a pickup truck at Tustin and Miraloma avenues, and Marval ran east on Miraloma, Dunn said.
A witness directed a CHP officer to Marval, who was booked on suspicion of robbery, attempted burglary, a probation violation and possession of stolen vehicle, Dunn said.
The other man ran northeast to the parking lot of a car dealership exchange in the 1300 block of North Tustin Avenue. Witnesses said he pointed a gun at bystanders as he fled, Dunn said.
Members of the Anaheim Police Tactical Response Group were summoned and found the suspect in a dark BMW SUV in the lot, he said.
“Two armored vehicles were utilized to protect the officers as they attempted to negotiate with the suspect to surrender peacefully,” Dunn said. After about an hour, the suspect fired shots at the officers at the officers in the armored vehicle and was killed when officers returned fire, Dunn said.
The suspect’s name has not been released.
Dunn said the officer-involved shooting ws being investigated by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
