The motorist accused of fleeing the scene of a fatal car crash in Irvine was located in Costa Mesa Thursday and arrested, authorities said.
The suspect was identified as Alec Scott Abraham, 20, of Costa Mesa, according to Irvine police Lt. Cathy Sherer, who did not have further details about the arrest.
Authorities believe Scott was driving a black Ford Mustang, which was among three vehicles that crashed about 9 p.m. Wednesday at Muirlands Boulevard and Alton Parkway.
Following the crash, the driver of the Mustang ran away, according to police. The subsequent search for the driver involved bloodhounds and helicopter crews.
Killed in the crash was 54-year-old Lake Forest resident Katherine Hampton, who was driving a white Chevrolet SUV, according to authorities. A woman passenger and two children — ages 3 and 6 — were taken to trauma centers. The injured remain in serious condition, Irvine Police Department spokeswoman Farrah Emami said.
The driver of the third vehicle, a 30-year-old woman, was also briefly hospitalized.
