A 28-year-old man was charged Tuesday with an alcohol-fueled crash in Fullerton that has a dance instructor fighting for his life.
Hector Ramon Delacruzjusto was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, DUI with a blood-alcohol level above .08% or more causing injury, all felonies, as well as an infraction for running a red light. He also faces sentencing enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury.
Delacruzjusto is accused of having a blood-alcohol level of .10, above the legal limit of .08, according to the criminal complaint.
The defendant was involved in a three-vehicle crash about 11:30 p.m. Sunday at West Valencia Drive and South Brookhurst Road, police said.
A 2024 Nissan eastbound on West Valencia Drive collided with a 2022 Mazda SUV southbound on South Brookhurst Road, police said. The Mazda then collided with a 2023 Tesla northbound on South Brookhurst Road, police said.
The Tesla driver was rushed to a local hospital, police said.
The victim’s fiancee and mother of the couple’s 6-year-old son said in a GoFundMe account that Mikey DellaVella was in intensive care “fighting for his recovery.” He “suffered multiple skull and facial fractures, a traumatic brain injury, and brain bleeding,” and “remains on a ventilator and under sedation,” according to the account seeking help with medical bills.
Delacruzjusto pleaded not guilty Tuesday at his arraignment in the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana and was next due in court for a pretrial hearing June 17 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
