Cooler, windy weather with scattered showers was forecast Saturday and leading into next week in the Inland Empire.
An upper-level low-pressure system from northwestern Canada moving into Southern California will generate shower activity of up to .35 inches of rain per hour by Monday morning, and conditions should be mostly dry by Wednesday.
“There is a 10- to 15-percent chance of thunderstorm development, higher chances closer to the coast with decreasing chances toward the mountains,” according to the National Weather Service.
Flooding may be possible especially where thunderstorms or heavier showers may occur, forecasters warn.
“Snow levels will generally be between 4,000 and 5,000 feet, but may drop to as low as 3,500 feet Sunday night into Monday. Drier and warmer for the middle of the week,” forecasters said.
The agency warns drivers to plan ahead and make sure of road conditions, as snow covered roads maybe hazardous driving conditions.
As a result of the low-pressure system, “fair weather will return for Wednesday or Thursday through Friday, with low clouds in the coastal areas and valleys during the nights and mornings,” according to the NWS.
The Inland Empire was predicted to encounter wind gusts up to 25 mph, likely showers and cloudy patchy fog Saturday night with a slight chance of thunderstorms commencing Sunday morning. Humidity levels will remain in the double digits with the arrival of the cooler weather up until Wednesday, when it was predicted to be sunny with a lesser chance of precipitation.
Daytime temperatures in the Riverside metropolitan area were expected to be in the low 60s from Saturday evening leading until Wednesday morning. A chance of showers was expected to begin after 4 p.m. Saturday with southerly wind gusts of up to 10 mph becoming westerly after midnight. Nighttime lows were forecast in the lower 40s.
In the Coachella Valley, it will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms and temperatures in the mid-60s during the daytime starting Monday and back down to the mid-40s at night for next week.
