A brush fire in Blythe that scorched 42 acres and damaged three structures was 40% contained Friday morning.
The fire was reported in the 10000 block of 10th Avenue, near Seventh Street, at 2:35 p.m. Thursday, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
Firefighters arriving at the scene found a fire burning in heavy vegetation that had spread to three structures and was moving in a northeast direction, the department said.
The wind-whipped fire spread from 10 acres to about 40 acres by about 6:45 p.m.
About 9:20 p.m., the department announced progress of the fire had been stopped with 42 acres burned and 40% containment.
Firefighters remained on scene in the early morning hours.
