Thousands of people Sunday are expected to walk, bike, skate and jog along a 6.1-mile car-free route connecting West Hollywood, Hollywood and East Hollywood as CicLAvia stages its latest open streets event.
“Participants can show up anywhere along the route to enjoy the open streets, taking the time to explore, and enjoy a great day,” the organization said in a statement.
The free event, “CicLAvia–Meet the Hollywoods,” is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday along Santa Monica Boulevard between La Cienega Boulevard and Highland Avenue, Highland Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, according to organizers.
Organizers said the route was revised because of a water main break, with the western end of the route now ending at La Cienega Boulevard.
A kickoff news conference was set for 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the West Hollywood Hub, 8491 Santa Monica Blvd., at the Sal Guarriello Veterans’ Memorial just east of La Cienega Boulevard.
Expected speakers include Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, West Hollywood Mayor John Heilman, Rep. Laura Friedman, D-Glendale, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and Los Angeles City Councilmembers Hugo Soto-Martinez and Nithya Raman.
The route will feature four activity hubs offering family-friendly programming, restrooms, water refill stations, bicycle parking, basic bike repairs, first aid and free pedicab rides.
The hubs are located in West Hollywood just east of La Cienega Boulevard, Plummer Park, the Hollywood Walk of Fame and East Hollywood. A pit stop near Wilton Place on Hollywood Boulevard will also provide water, restrooms and bike repair, organizers said.
Organizers also planned World Cup programming and a watch party for the tournament’s championship match at the Walk of Fame Hub on Hollywood Boulevard at Highland Avenue.
CicLAvia has hosted 66 previous open streets events, temporarily closing streets to vehicle traffic while encouraging residents to explore neighborhoods by foot, bicycle and other nonmotorized means.
According to the nonprofit organization, nearly 2 million people have participated in CicLAvia events covering more than 369 miles of Los Angeles streets.
